LED Current-Limiting Resistor
A series resistor limits the current through an LED (which has a non-linear I-V curve). The resistor drops the voltage difference between the supply and the LED forward voltage. R = (Vsupply − Vf) / If. Power dissipation in the resistor is also calculated so you can select the right package.
